Why do yoga?


Because it makes us feel and look good! And that is definitely a good enough reason....

According to ancient yogic texts, the purpose and goal of all yoga is to still the mind. If the mind becomes still, the body becomes still and it is in these moments of stillness that magic happens.... healing happens. It is in the stillness that we can connect to and experience our higher self . We can feel a deep immer peace and divine connection and unity with everything. In the stillness we become more aware, awakended and fully conscious.  This helps us to live life in the moment and to the fullest and it also helps us to be happier, healthier and more able to achieve our full potential....

In our modern and fast paced world, a regular  and consistant yoga practice can bring many benefits. Through exercise, movement, breath, medtation and relaxtation, we cam restore our equilibrium and harmony, reduce excess stress and improve health and fitness levels and therefore the quality of our lives. 

Yoga is a powerful tool for positive change and transformation. Having a regular practice can positively impact all areas of our lives, including our health and well being, mindset, relationships, creativity and performance, whether at work or in other sporting and leisure activities. It can empower and give the courage to tame positive steps towards positive change .

Physically, yoga will reduce physical tension, stiffness, and aches and pains, improve circulation.posture, flexibility, mobility and suppleness. It will cleanse, tone, energise and strengthen the body and all its systems. It just make us look and feel really good.

Mentally, yoga can help us work through blocks which hold us back. It can reduce and balance excess stress. The mind will be calmer, sharper, cleaer and more focussed.

Emotionally it can bring balance and self control.

 Spiritually it is liberating.

Kundalini Yoga

I teach authentic, traditional classic kundalini yoga Kriyas as taught by Yogi Bhajan who created this system using his extensive knowledge of yoga and eastern practices and disciplines. Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan has been described as ‘The Mother Of All Yoga’, because of its potency and it's deep and powerful transformative abilities.
The system works quickly because each class contains all aspects of yoga and comprise specific sequences of exercise, posture, mudra, bandha, breath, mantra, meditation and relaxation called kriyas. The word Kriya means specific action.  Each sequence has a theme and specific effect, but we do work on the whole body, mind and spirit in every class. Students will also gain a greater understanding of the connection between Eastern and Weastern anatomy, physiology and philosophy.

The postures are mostly repetitive dynamic movement,  although sometimes there are static and dynamic flow as well and very often pranayama (breathing exercises) is done at the same time as posture which greatly enhances the power of the posture and the breath.
Kundalini yoga very much incorporates the physical, physiological and spiritual/subtle aspects of yoga in every class right from the start.  A regular and consistant practice  creates and maintains great physical, mental and emotional health, heightened awareness, elevated consciousness, personal empowerment and therefore positive transformation in all areas of our lives happens very quickly.

It is very powerful and this quote from Russell Brand about his experience of Kundalini Yoga pretty much sums it up for me,

"Kundalini Yoga is the crack cocaine of yoga. If hatha is a mild weed high, iyengar is a deep hash glow, and ashtanga is amphetamine, Kundalini blows the *ucking doors off.”

I would like to say here that this practice and my classes are very safe and suitable for all levels of  manstram students.

I am a KRI (Kundalini Research Institute) Kundalini yoga teacher, with a strong background and many years of experience. I had a thorough training under the expert guidance of the world renowned Karam Kriya school.
I am also qualified to teach Pregnancy, Childrens and The Elderly Kundalini yoga, however my general, mainstream, public classes are not suitable to include inexperienced  pregnant womwn, children under 16 or those with severe physical or mental health challenges or if you have substance addictions (including alcohol)  but private classes can be arranged on request 

Hatha Yoga

Hatha yoga is the foundation of most  modern mainstream yoga we know today. It originates from the most ancient Indian philosophies, traditions, spiritual teachings and written records that we have. 
Originally it was not taught in open classes in India, but rather passed down from a master/teacher/guru to his student and only for boys!
It is a philosophy, teaching and spiritual path to realisation, enlightenment and libration (from the birth, life, death and rebirth cycle its teachings are baed on), but unlike kundalini, you had to work through each stage of the system and perfect it before progressing to the next. So a student could take five years perfecting posture before being allowed to do breath work and so on, through to finally being allowed to practice meditation. It could take a lifetime!
Many mainstream classes in the West just teach the postures which is what many people are familiar with, but Hatha yoga is more than just posture. It is a whole system which includes more subtle aspects of yoga- lifestyle, breathwork and meditation. It is designed to guide you on your spiritual journey.
Like Kundalini, there are many health benefits on this journet.
My Hatha classes tend to contain the subtle aspects of Hatha yoga and yoga philosophy as well as the physical postures as I believe to get the most from a yoga practice, it is fundamental and essential to practice yoga as a whole system.

I am an Ofqual Level 4 BWYQ
 (British Wheel of Yoga), 500 hour Diploma teacher, which is their highest qualification and takes 3 committed and dedicated years of study, practice and teaching to complete.

Our classes are small so the student can enjoy individual Atterton and are held in a beautiful private studio in Buckhurst Hill, Essex overlooking a peaceful, serene and tranquil garden with off street parking and close to public transport.
